Design
The Vanguard complies with NATO standards and offers STANAG 4A and 4B blast protection. Level 4A enables it to withstand a 10 kg anti-tank mine detonating under any of its wheels or tracks, while Level 4B safeguards the crew even if the mine explodes under the vehicle itself.
In contrast to other MRAPs, such as the Cougar and the RG-31 Nyala, the Vanguard provides a greater range of configurations.
The Vanguard is equipped with STANAG Level 3 armour, protecting 7.62 x 51 mm armour-piercing rounds fired from 30 meters at velocities of up to 930 meters per second. Its adaptability is augmented by various integrated systems, including manned turrets, remote stations, and smoke launchers.
Internally, the Vanguard accommodates two crew members and eight passengers and is capable of fulfilling roles such as an infantry fighting vehicle, armoured personnel carrier, border patrol vehicle, military field ambulance, or command vehicle.
The Vanguard boasts additional electronic warfare capabilities, such as jammers and signal intelligence (SIGINT) systems, offering an operational advantage by disrupting enemy communications.
Powered by a 336 kW (450 hp) engine, the Vanguard can ford water up to 500 mm deep, navigate gradients up to 60%, and negotiate side slopes up to 35%. With a gross vehicle mass of 19,500 kg and a tare mass of 15,500 kg, it maintains a power-to-weight ratio of 22 kW (29 hp) per ton. The Vanguard achieves a top speed of 100 km/h, can traverse trenches up to 1 meter wide, and boasts an operational range of 900 km.
The Vanguard is available in multiple configurations, including troop carrier, command vehicle, border surveillance, field ambulance, and riot control. It offers blast protection that is compliant with STANAG 4a and 4b, as well as ballistic protection that meets STANAG 3 standards. With a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 19,500 kg, it can be equipped with either a crewed or remotely operated turret. The vehicle has a maximum road speed of 100 km/h and a maximum off-road speed of 80 km/h, with a range of 1,000 km.
Featuring STANAG Level 3 ballistic armour, the Vanguard is engineered to defend against 7.62 x 51 mm armour-piercing rounds fired from 30 meters. It accommodates two crew members and eight passengers, offering versatility in roles such as an infantry fighting vehicle, armoured personnel carrier, or field ambulance. The Vanguard encompasses weapon systems such as manned turrets, remote stations, smoke launchers, and electronic warfare capabilities, including jammers and signal intelligence (SIGINT) systems, distinguishing it from other MRAPs.
Milkor's Vanguard achieves a top speed of 100 km/h, can negotiate trenches up to 1 meter wide, and maintains an operational range of 900 km, rendering it suitable for protracted missions or emergencies.
Conclusion
Drawing parallels to the versatility and functionality of a Swiss Army knife, the Vanguard is engineered to prioritise troop safety while demonstrating unparalleled adaptability and effectiveness in fulfilling mission objectives. Its robust construction and advanced protective features adhere to NATO STANAG 4A and 4B protection standards, ensuring the vehicle's ability to withstand a 10 kg anti-tank mine detonation beneath its wheels or the vehicle itself.
The vehicle's comprehensive protection and innovative design elements position it as a formidable asset for modern military and defence operations, exemplifying Milkor's commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions that prioritise troop safety and operational excellence.
