Armscor wishes to correct a misleading article published by News24 this morning, 1 September 2025 that a robbery incident occurred at the Dockyard, when the incident actually took place at the Institute for Maritime Technology (IMT).

The organisation notes the recent video circulating on social media regarding the alleged theft of weapons at the IMT.

“We would like to clarify that the items in question belong to a private security company contracted to Armscor. As such, Armscor cannot confirm the type or number of weapons involved. In addition to these items, the suspects also stole cell phones and security scanners from security guards,” said Advocate Solomzi Mbada, CEO of Armscor.

Armscor can confirm that the incident did take place at the IMT facility on the evening of 28 July 2025. However, the robbers never entered the IMT building — the entire incident was confined to the security guards’ house at the gate. A case was immediately opened at the Simon’s Town Police Station and arrests have since been made.

In response, Armscor has acted swiftly to strengthen security at the facility. Enhanced measures now include:

• Increased security personnel per shift.

• Regular vehicle patrols in and around the premises.

• Strengthened protocols to safeguard employees, stakeholders and assets.

“The safety of our people and the integrity of our operations remain non-negotiable priorities for Armscor. We remain committed to working closely with law enforcement and our security partners to ensure such incidents are not repeated,” concluded Advocate Mbada.

IMT, a subsidiary of Armscor, is an accredited world-class facility strategically providing science-based technological and engineering support to the South African Navy and other members of the maritime community locally and globally.
