First Phase of LRASM F-35C Flight Science Program Complete

Key Points

With more than 20 years of experience providing highly survivable and accurate cruise missiles, Lockheed Martin is combining the unique capabilities of the Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) with the F-35 Lightning II to enhance combat readiness and capability.

Forging the Path Toward Integration

Lockheed Martin supported the successful completion of the first phase of the U.S. Navy F-35C LRASM Flight Sciences Test Program after a series of integration flight tests from September 2024 to April 2026.

The test program continues LRASM’s full integration plan on the F-35C, enhancing the aircraft's unmatched capabilities.

LRASM supports the warfighter by providing a potent stand-off strike capability against modern naval threats, enhancing the ability of air forces to deny enemy sea control without needing to operate within heavily defended airspace. Its combination of long range and sophisticated targeting, makes it a critical component of contemporary anti‑ship warfare.

"By integrating LRASM onto the F-35, we’re giving our warfighters a powerful capability that enhances mission flexibility and expands their operational options,” said Jon Hill, vice president and general manager, Lockheed Martin Air Dominance and Strike Weapons.

LRASM’s future integration to the F-35 fleet will increase the F-35’s advanced long-range sea and land strike capabilities, expanding the F-35’s multi-role mission set; the same capabilities it already provides on the B-1B and F/A-18E/F.

“Integrating LRASM onto the proven 5th Generation F-35 is another example of how Lockheed Martin is enhancing the operational capabilities of the F-35, alongside investments from the U.S. military and its allied partners,” said Sean Jackson, vice president, F-35 Development.

Testing Ensures Success

To reach this critical milestone, a series of flight science tests took place to validate the aircraft’s behaviour with the heavy external store across the flight envelope.

For these tests, the LRASM program is using both LRASM and Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) test assets. This collaboration supports the planned integration of both LRASM and JASSM on the F-35.

By continuing the path toward LRASM’s full integration onto the F-35, Lockheed Martin is ensuring the modern warfighter has a strategic advantage in every domain.
