As Africa’s aviation sector experiences its fastest expansion in years, according to a new white paper released by the African Travel and Tourism Association - East Africa is emerging as the fastest-growing region, with departure seats jumping 24.3% to 46.5 million this year.
And two of the new leaders of airlines in that region will be on the stage at this year’s Aviation Africa Summit in Nairobi, September 9-10.
Legendary doyen of the African aviation world, Ato Girma Wake, has taken up the reins at Uganda Airlines in a temporary role as CEO until at least the end of July.
Wake was CEO of Ethiopian Airlines and was acknowledged as being the mastermind behind that carrier’s rise to be the continent’s largest. He was later chairman of RwandAir and is now the Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s choice to lead the Ugandan carrier out of its problems.
Neighbours – and competitors – Kenya Airways will see its Acting CEO, Captain George Kamal explain how the strategy to grow the legacy of KQ is working.
Kamal has been chief commercial officer for Kenya Airways following a successful career with airlines in the Middle East such as Air Arabia and Iraq Airways.
More than 50 airline C-Suite leaders will be at this year’s event which brings airlines together with regulators, government ministers, MROs, Training establishments, and OEMs.
Aviation AFRICA is organised by TIMES Aerospace Events Ltd, having already organised 9 previous editions in the United Arab Emirates, Rwanda, Egypt, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and South Africa.
