Thales in the UK, in collaboration with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), hosted multiple international partners to highlight the Lightweight Multi-role Missile (LMM) and its capabilities in both air defence and surface attack roles.
The demonstration, held at Manorbier, featured Thales UK successfully conducting consecutive firings of LMMs at both an aerial target and a maritime target. This event marked a first of its kind, highlighting Thales’ expertise in air defence and surface attack. The LMM is leading the way in short-range defence, enabling seamless back-to-back engagements of incoming threats, and reaffirming the missile's versatility and multi-role applications.
During the engagement, both the aerial target (a Banshee UAV) and the maritime target (a fast inshore attack craft - FIAC) were successfully destroyed. The demonstration involved firing two missiles within less than 60 seconds—one for each specific target—highlighting the missile's lethality, agility, and technical capabilities. The LMM was launched from a vehicle-mounted, lightweight fire control system developed by Thales in the UK.
The demonstration day received support from the British Army and Royal Navy, featuring displays of static equipment such as shoulder and tripod launchers, as well as a Wildcat helicopter capable of carrying 20 LMM at a time, referred to as Martlet in the naval context.
